Vapor Injection Technology

Vapor injection is a versatile method that significantly improves system capacity and efficiency in commercial refrigeration applications. Traditionally requiring large screw compressors or multiple semi-hermetic reciprocating compressors, this technology is now available in a single Scroll® compressor.

Injecting vapor during the compression process boosts capacities and efficiencies substantially. The ZF*KVE family of high-efficiency refrigeration scrolls with vapor injection is specifically designed for low temperature applications using R404A and R507 refrigerants.

The vapor injection circuit functions similarly to a two-stage cycle with interstage cooling but within a single compressor. Liquid from the condenser is expanded through a valve into a heat exchanger acting as a subcooler, with the resulting superheated vapor injected into an intermediate port in the scroll compressor. This additional subcooling increases evaporator capacity, making it ideal for condensing units, parallel racks, and distributed refrigeration systems.
